ART OF THE KILL: Examining vintage vampire kits with the VAMPA MUSEUM. On January 22nd, join us for a special Science on Screen presentation before NOSFERATU from our friends at the VAMPA Museum. Museum curator and Proprietor Edmondo Crimi, will give a short presentation examining the history and use of vampire killing kits—showcasing pieces from their collection dating back to the 18th century. NOSFERATU will be featured in Theater 1 for this special one night only event.
The latest from filmmaker Robert Eggers is a stylish, gothic tale about a young woman pursued by a terrifying vampire in 19th century Germany. It is a stunningly beautiful film with extraordinary cinematography that is simply dazzling. Yes, it’s a dark thriller about a vampire, so it’s not a family film. And, yes, it’s a horror film, but it’s mostly restrained in that regard. We’d call it a measured, gothic mood piece - an homage to German Expressionism, if you will. With an impressive cast that includes Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, and Willem Dafoe.
Science on Screen is supported by a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, with additional support from Rubin Anders Scientific, and Ken Loveday and Ellen Hoffman, Brookline. Many thanks to our series founder Richard Anders. Co-presented by the Museum of Science.
